What I have learnt today (or I knew it, just sort of realised and noticed that people ignore this). That when you want to show dark skin, no matter what are the basic colours and shades (if it’s natural brownish or alien blue), it’s important to notice how different is the contrast for light and dark skin. The biggest mistake people make when painting dark complexion is that they try to apply light skin’s contrast, which is happens between midtones and shadows. While for dark skin that contrast is between highlight and midtones.. Applying the contrast of light skin to dark skin gives the impression of bleaching the skin colour.
I’m done being smartass for today :P
Oh, BTW, don’t use swatches I used here. I know it’s tempting for some, but just don’t. I picked them quite randomly just to demonstrate one thing and that both types can be painted with exactly same colours just used in different proportions.
